Meek was selected for the annual award because she has exhibited professionally for decades and has been a committed advocate for visual arts. She receives a $3,000 cash prize.

Named the inaugural Nasher Fellow in Urban Historical Reclamation and Recognition last year, Meek has curated more than 125 exhibitions in Texas. She served at the South Dallas Cultural Center for 20 years as fundraiser, programmer and manager before retiring in 2016.

Her work is featured in collections at the African American Museum of Dallas, Fort Wayne Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Norwalk Community College and Paul Quinn College.

The Moss/Chumley Memorial Fund was created in 1989 as a tribute to Jim Chumley, and Frank Moss’ name was added after his death in 1991. Moss and Chumley were Dallas art dealers who managed Nimbus Gallery on Routh Street and the Moss/Chumley Gallery.

The award recipient was selected by a jury made of arts writer and educator Nancy Cohen Israel, UNT professors Laura Evans and Angela Gonzalez Hall, 2022 Moss/Chumley recipient Tamara Johnson, Texas Vignette Art Fair Manager Danielle Naylor, the Meadows Museum’s Olivia Turner and Miranda Saylor, and Texas Christian University Gallery Manager Kay Seedig.
