Williams is the founder and president of Hearts Across Romania, a Dallas-based nonprofit established to improve the quality of life for orphans in Brasov, Romania. The shoes, plus $2,500 cash, were donated to him from Little Heroes Foundation, based in Provo, Utah.

“Providing shoes to children in this community is an ongoing concern, especially as children grow and need new shoes frequently,” Williams says.

“Most of these children have only one pair of shoes and they see a lot of wear and tear. And some have never even owned a brand new pair of shoes. We’re grateful to Little Heroes for giving us the resources needed to help these children one step at a time.”

This September, Hearts Across Romania board members and volunteers will personally distribute the shoes to children at the Dacia Orphanage, the Lady Bug Day Care Center, the UPSV transitional program, and in the HAR Sponsor a Child Program.

Interested in going with the team? The trip to Romania is from Sept. 16 to Oct. 1, and they’re looking for additional volunteers. Volunteers must be over the age of 16 and are asked to pay $1,400 for the 16-day journey. This fee covers the cost of meals, lodging, ground transportation and some sightseeing and cultural activities. Airfare is not included in this fee and will be the responsibility of the work team member.
