East Dallas artist Shannon Kincaid, who we wrote about in April for her empowering paintings that line the walls of the fourth floor of the Baylor T. Boone Pickens Cancer Hospital, has embarked on a new project, and it starts right here in our neighborhood.

Project Starbucks was inspired by the Starbucks culture and idea of the “third place.” (First place is home, second place is work and third place is Starbucks.) Kincaid painted several pieces for the Starbucks in the Mockingbird-Abrams shopping center, which is where she first noticed a correlation between first and third place, but she doesn’t plan to stop there. Eventually, she hopes to catch the eye of Starbucks Corporate.

Store Manager Andy Whisenhunt says he’s reached out to Starbucks Corporate about Kincaid because he believes her paintings do an excellent job of capturing the vision of Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.

Kincaid’s pieces at 6333 Mockingbird depict several candid scenes, mostly featuring locals who, like herself, haunt the location on a regular basis. As you can imagine, many of the regulars have been tickled to find themselves on the walls of Starbucks within the last few weeks.

The featured paintings will rotate as Kincaid paints more. Maybe you’ll recognize yourself or someone you know. Check out the photos below.
