The emergency room first announced it was opening in April in the location on the corner of Skillman and Oram, which has sat vacant for more than a year after Gallery Central, a custom framing store that was there for 23 years before it was forced to move to the back of the shopping center in order to make room for Houndstooth (which, by the way, didn’t want the location after all). Stonelake is combining the old East Dallas Developmental Center location as well to create a larger space for Excellence.

Last we checked, Excellence hoped to open in November, but the opening date will likely be later than that.

Excellence ER started in Houston a couple years ago, and there are two locations in the Houston area (although in Houston it’s called Dow Emergency). The Lakewood location is a part of an expansion, which will also include locations in Plano and San Antonio, according to Stefanie Nelson, the director of project development and operations with Excellence ER.

Excellence is a “free-standing emergency room,” Nelson says. Which means it will be a full-service ER that operates under its own license. It will have a radiology department, which includes equipment for CT scans and ultrasounds. It will also have its own lab and pharmacy.
