The town homes facing Skillman

The townhouses facing Skillman

The streets near the construction site of the new apartments going in at Skillman and Sandhurst were lined with cars and trucks this morning. Construction on the site — which features townhouses at the front of the property facing Skillman and apartments in the back along Amesbury — has been nonstop since it started several months ago. Already, crews are paneling the outside of the buildings, and that’s just the beginning.

When we posted about the complex previously, a commenter pointed us to a discussion about the property from 2012. There is also a lot of good information available in this old Dallas Morning News article, although I don’t know if any of the details have been changed. We placed a call with JLB Builders, the developer of the property, but never heard back from them.

According to the initial reports, JLB Builders plans to build almost 1,400 apartments on 19 acres, which will replace several blocks of older apartments built in the 1960s.

If you drive down Amesbury, you can see a large structure going in (pictured below). A man at the construction site this morning confirmed that it’s a parking garage. He also pointed out several older buildings along Amesbury that will be torn down during later phases of construction, which is consistent with the initial reports.

Looks like construction on more apartments has already started around the parking garage. Take a peek at this conceptual plan from 2012 to see what else is in store:
