We’re halfway through summer and September will be here before you know it — and that means the Okrapalooza is almost here.

The Okrapalooza is an event held at The Lot every September to raise money for the East Dallas nonprofit Promise of Peace Community Gardens.

As indicated by the name, the event is all about okra.

During this competitive cook-off, Dallas-area chefs create their best dish that features okra — okra dipping sauce, okra curry, okra salad. They sky is the limit when you have a skilled chef highlighting okra. (See the list of participating chefs online.)

Lakewood Brewing Co. is pitching in to make sure the adults have a good selection of beers, and for the first time this year there will be several activity tents for the kids.

Learn more on the Okrapalooza website, or learn more about the Promise of Peace on its website. Tickets for the Okrapalooza are available on Eventbrite.
