In April, only 66% of the class of 2021 was set to graduate. By May 20, the rate increased to 76%.

DISD implemented a program called Finish Strong to help students get back on track. Seniors were encouraged to return to in-person classes beginning April 12, and many schools created events and activities to help students have a memorable end to their year. They could use the Reconnection Center or Evening Academy to catch up on lessons they might have missed as a result of virtual learning. In addition, many graduation committees were monitoring individual students, and district leaders were developing plans to support the seniors.

The district also created a program in February called “Operation Comeback: Student Re-Engagement” to reach families and try to understand why students weren’t attending school.
