You don’t have to love cars to enjoy delicious Southwestern food at Desert Racer. It’s a bonus if you do. The newest eatery on Lower Greenville has six vehicles parked inside the restaurant and on the patio.

Step inside Desert Racer, and you’ll see a full-sized van, a white bug and a Ducati in the space that was formerly Haymaker.

Desert Racer at 1520 Greenville Ave. opened Dec. 18, about eight months after its intended opening date, the Dallas Morning New reported. Dallas restaurateur Nick Badovinus had hoped to open April 11. That was the day he drove across the desert to Dallas 23 years ago. He’s been here ever since.

Rust-colored rugs, cacti and pictures of cars dot the inside of the restaurant. Outside, an 8,000-square-foot patio with cornhole and foosball games is enclosed by cinder-block walls.

Badovinus, the mastermind behind Neighborhood Services and Offsite Kitchen, serves up burgers, tacos and other cantina food at Desert Racer. The bar offers sangrias, wine, beer and shots, as well as specialty cocktails.

Try the Ranch Water with tequila, club soda and lime or the Jala-Kaze shot with vodka, jalapeno and lime.
