David J. Weber, who helped originate the “Friends of Woodrow” support group for the neighborhood high school, died recently at 69, according to a DMN article forwarded to me by Woodrow alum Kyle Rains. Weber and attorney Jim Watson founded the “Friends” group in the 1980s; Watson’s son, Monty, was head of the similar “Friends of Lakewood Elementary” dads’ group a few years ago. Weber’s children are both Woodrow grads: David in 1982 and Amy Weber Delrio in 1985, Rains reports. Weber was an expert on U.S.-Mexican relations, was honored by Spain and Mexico for his efforts, and helped found the William P. Clements Center for Southwestern Studies at SMU, according to the DMN story.
