On Monday the city will swear in Dallas Fire Rescue (DFR) Chief Justin Ball, and Dallas Police Department (DPD) Chief Daniel C. Comeaux.

Comeaux is a 33-year law enforcement veteran; he began his career with the Houston Police Department in 1991. He has experience in community policing, narcotics enforcement, and high-risk investigations. He is taking over the role after former Chief, Eddie Garcia, moved to Austin to be the assistant city manager over public safety. Comeaux is Dallas’ 31st Chief of Police.

Ball has been part of the DFD since 1997. He’s progressed through every rank, including firefighter paramedic to Field Deputy Chief, Executive Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, and ultimately Executive Assistant Chief of Operations.

He is Dallas’ 18th Fire Chief. He is taking over the position after former Chief Dominique Artis took on the role of Dallas Chief of Public Safety. Ball will oversee a $430 million budget and lead a team of about 2,220 men and women.

Both Comeaux and Ball took their oaths of office on Wednesday, April 23, in the Dallas City Secretary’s office.

A joint swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Concord Baptist Church, Monday, May 5 at 6 p.m.

The event is free to the public, and you can RSVP here.
