Zac Crain, a well-known and respected senior writer and editor at D Magazine, died at his home on July 16 from an undetermined illness.
He was 50 years old.
Crain made a name for himself in Dallas, chronicling its culture, people and politics. His time at the Dallas Observer, the American Way magazine and 17-year tenure at D Magazine made him a staple in the city’s world of journalism.
His writing career didn’t stop within the bounds of journalism, as he also authored three books: Black Tooth Grin, A Pedestrian’s Recent History of Dallas, and I See You, Big German.
Writing in D Magazine on Thursday, Mike Piellucci, the sports editor, wrote that Crain “always knew how to structure a story, the way to punch up a line, if something worked and why.”
He is survived by a son, Issac, according to D Magazine.
