After a years-long effort, neighbors in the Lakewood Conservation District celebrated a major victory on Feb. 26 when City Council unanimously approved the expansion of CD 2, one of the first conservation districts in Dallas.

The expansion was subject to a modified boundary line, removing the south side of the 6800 block of Lakeshore. The updated map, which can be found below, will bring 146 homes into the boundaries of the Lakewood Conservation District.

Summer Loveland, who is a part of the neighborhood committee that has been working to expand CD 2, thanked Preservation Dallas and neighboring conservation districts for their support. According to Loveland, several neighbors showed up to the vote and spoke about their support for the expansion.

Loveland said, “Several council members voiced recognition of the neighbor-driven process and the importance of Lakewood to the City.”

In a statement, District 9 Council Member Paula Blackmon said that those neighbors currently renovating their properties will be allowed to finish the work under their current permits.

The expansion will go into effect on March 30, 2025.
