The restaurant wrote a farewell note on its Facebook page in November: “Good bye! We will miss you all!” Cigarz has been sold and is not operating anymore, the page also says.

Omar Dibe and his wife, Sadie Ayers, founded the restaurant in 2002. Dibe, who was Lebanese, and Ayers put their own touches on the menu, selling gyros and wraps in addition to pizza.

It was later taken over by Bill Weiss, who died in 2022 and also owned The Goat, the dive bar next door. Customers could order a Cigarz pizza and eat it at The Goat.

The menu didn’t change much over its 20 years, however, and loyal fans shared messages of grief on Cigarz’s Facebook page in response to the news.

Cigarz was located at 7238 Gaston Ave. near the Gaston-Garland-Grand intersection.
