Steakhouse-quality meat at affordable prices is the goal of a new restaurant planning to open in Deep Ellum later this summer.

CheapSteaks will debut at 2613 Elm St. in the former Stonedeck Pizza space, CultureMap reported. An opening date is set for August.

Co-founders Jeff Biehler, John Jay Myers and Ed Laster were inspired by the Greenville Avenue staple Char Bar, which closed in 2019.

“They had the best $10 steaks,” Biehler told CultureMap. “It was where broke musicians went to eat. We wanted to recreate that kind of place where you could get a good steak at a good price and where you don’t have to get dressed up like you would at a place like Bob’s.”

CheapSteaks will serve four steaks, one of which will be under $20. A seafood dish, a burger and a vegan item will round out the menu. Sides will include Brussels sprouts and au gratin potatoes.

Meals, cocktails and cold beer can be enjoyed on an outdoor patio.

The fast-casual steakhouse will keep the Deep Ellum vibe with two stages where live music can be performed.
