It came just four months after the grocery store chain opened its Plano store. Since then, Central Market has expanded to two other Dallas locations — one at W. Northwest Highway and Midway and one at Preston-Royal. The first Central Market opened in Austin in 1994.

“Dallas and Plano have always been sophisticated foodie communities with their own culture and notable food destinations,” says Stephen Butt, the president of H-E-B and Central Market. “We were fortunate to be immediately embraced by life-long H-E-B customers, new customers, chefs and the entire foodie community when we opened our doors 20 years ago.”

Since 2002, Central Market has given more than $30 million to local nonprofits such as schools, food banks, museums, cultural organizations, military families, police and fire departments and disaster-relief services. Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and Dallas ISD Teacher of the Year are a couple of the recipients of the store’s cash and in-kind gifts.

To celebrate the anniversary, the Lovers Lane store is holding events. Yesterday, there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony. And tonight, those who have registered will attend a tasting event with celebrity chefs Stephan Pyles, Dean Fearing and Robert Del Grande.

And in case you missed it, local favorite Emporium Pies is now selling its pie crust in Central Market stores. Find it in the freezer section.
