Few people have successfully created their own weekly newspaper, popular blog site and clever comic strip before reaching the age of 9. For Bob Cummins, though, this may be just the beginning. At the tender age of 7, Cummins says he knew he wanted to be a cartoonist. In order to bring his talent to the masses, he decided to put together his own newspaper featuring several comic strips and interviews with neighbors. Each week, Cummins delivered his one-page creation to every house on Goliad. “I just really love to draw,” Cummins says. “I started making special holiday editions of the paper last year.” As his newspaper gained popularity, Cummins decided to look for other avenues to showcase his talents. In late 2006, the Weekly Bob Blog was born, featuring postings of Cummins’ work. “My daughters just love his blog,” says Jack Turlington, Cummins’ neighbor. “Bob is a very talented kid, and I’m proud to say I was the first neighbor to be interviewed.” Cummins hones his talents during Studio Arts Dallas’ cartooning class, and director Barley Vogel calls him an anomaly. “His blog has just spread like wildfire throughout the neighborhood,” she says.
