Dallas police officers responded to a call around 5:30 a.m. Sept. 28 in the 10300 blockĀ of Shiloh Road, near Gus Thomasson Road, the Dallas Police Department reports.

When they arrived on scene, they saw a male suspect armed with a handgun, the preliminary investigation found. Officers told the man to drop his gun, but he did not, and he started shooting at the officers.

The police returned fire and hit the man. They tried to provide medical assistance, and the man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. No officers were injured in the shooting.

An investigation is ongoing, and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and Office of Community Police Oversight have been notified.
