Casa Linda Estates Neighborhood Association is using a voluntary decal program in hopes of keeping crime down.

The crime watch team has sent out Casa Linda Estates car stickers to the 450 or so residents of the East Dallas neighborhood. The idea is to use stickers to identify cars that "belong" in the neighborhood and, by default, those that don’t. Based on the buzz I’ve been hearing/reading, some people aren’t sure what to think of this, though most seem to find the idea interesting.

I cruise that neighborhood quite a bit since my children attend school at St. Bernard. Sometimes I drive around the area while waiting for my daughter’s volleyball practice to let out. Hmm. Mine will probably end up on their suspicious vehicle radar.

Still, I don’t think it’s a bad idea. Any little thing to help keep people alert, or to deter people who might be up to no good, is OK with me. It’s not as if stickers can keep law abiding non-residents out of the neighborhood.
