The slice of cake from the 1913 wedding of President Woodrow Wilson’s daughter was sent by a bridesmaid from Texas to her cousin in Dallas, according to north Texas author Mark Stuertz, who wrote the book “Secret Dallas: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure.”

Stuertz told Dallas’ Fox affiliate, KDFW, that he wasn’t sure if the cake was sent in anticipation of the school’s dedication — 14 years later. But in 1927, the slice was laid in one of the school’s cornerstones.

How the cake was preserved for 14 years before it was buried in the foundation is anyone’s guess.
