In January Janice Miller became the longest living resident in C. C. Young‘s health center, and the second longest living resident on the campus.

Miller celebrated her 105th birthday. She has been a resident for nearly 20 years, and is “a staple throughout the campus,” according to C. C. Young’s staff.

Born in Tennessee, Miller moved to Texas at age 8. She married Methodist minister T. Lee Miller and the couple served the community in various capacities throughout their lives. Lee Miller was a graduate of SMU Seminary, served on the C. C. Young board of directors and was instrumental in the purchase of the current land the campus sits on today. He also organized 17 churches throughout Texas until he retired in 1974 upon his passing.

Janice Miller is a gifted pianist who taught piano and supported the Auxiliaries, mentored minister’s wives and was choir director and a Sunday school teacher. Originally an independent living resident, Janice continued to manage her personal affairs until age 100. She has one daughter, two grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
