The little drive-up burger joint located in the Kroger parking lot at Mockingbird Lane and Greenville Avenue has closed after 26 years in business, according to CultureMap.

Burger Street closed Feb. 1 at 5657 E. Mockingbird Lane. A representative from the company told the publication that Kroger owns the parking lot and raised the rent to a rate the business could not afford.

“We’re hoping to reopen nearby, but we don’t have a location yet,” the representative told CultureMap. “We have been grateful that area residents helped make this store one of our long-term success stories.”

The burger joint, known for unique menu items like the Chili Cheese Burger and the Olive Burger, was popular among Southern Methodist University students and residents at the surrounding apartment complexes.

In addition to burgers, the eatery served chicken strips, hot dogs, sandwiches and sides.

Burger Street opened in Lewisville in 1981 with 1/5-pound burgers for 99 cents, CultureMap reported. Today, there are 14 locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but most are in the suburbs.
