The 38-year-old teacher, Qasim Frazier, turned himself into the Dallas Police Department and was taken to the Dallas County Jail on April 4, police said.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the chemistry teacher was escorted off campus Feb. 24 and placed on administrative leave. A spokesperson for Dallas ISD said the district does not comment on personnel matters.

On Feb. 23, an assistant principal at Bryan Adams was notified that the student asked another student via text what she should do about inappropriate messages from the teacher. The assistant principal then reported it to Dallas ISD Police.

The 14-year-old’s mother was contacted by a Dallas police officer on March 2, according to the affidavit. The mother, who said she did not know how Frazier got the student’s number, reported that the teacher called the student around 2 a.m. or 3 a.m., and he would also video call her. She also told the police that the teacher made inappropriate comments about the student’s buttocks.

On March 6, the student, who’s in 10th grade, was interviewed by the police. The student’s mother agreed to allow the police to search the student’s iPhone. When the Dallas Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit searched it, they found inappropriate text messages from the teacher’s phone number, the affidavit said.

Frazier was the student’s teacher and told her around Feb. 1 that he wanted to get to know her better and find out what she liked to do, according to the affidavit.

The student said Frazier sent her a text message and called her to see what she was doing. At the time, she was with her brother, and she put the phone on speaker, according to the affidavit. After that, Frazier called her late at night.

Around Feb. 16, the teacher called the student and said he was getting drunk and asked the student to come be with him so he could have sex with her and have kids with her, according to the affidavit. He also said he wanted to spoil her, and he sent $50 through Cash App for food, the affidavit said. The student reported that the teacher was performing a sex act while he was speaking with her on the phone, according to the affidavit.

In texts, the teacher told the student her buttocks were big and asked the student to delete the messages, the affidavit said. The student reported that in the classroom, the teacher rubbed his hand against her buttocks.

On March 22, the investigating officer listened to calls between the student and teacher. During the calls, which were recorded, the teacher said, “Nothing happened. Tell them the truth. Relax,” according to the affidavit. The student asked if the teacher told anyone about wanting to sleep with her, but the teacher said, “No, I don’t want to do that. No, no. Don’t make up things that are not true,” the affidavit said.

After the teacher hung up, he sent a text to the student saying they never should have texted each other and asked why the student was “trying to ruin my life,” according to the affidavit. Another text asked the student to “clear his name.”

The teacher agreed to an interview with the police on March 28, and the interview was conducted at the Dallas Police Child Exploitation Unit the next day.

In the interview, Frazier said he texted the student but initially denied texting anything inappropriately, according to the affidavit. He said he was drunk for two days after Feb. 14 and didn’t remember what he said over the phone. Frazier said he accidentally texted the student and thought he was talking with someone else, the affidavit said. He said he wasn’t attracted to the student and then admitted to sending inappropriate messages to the student while he was drunk.

During the interview, Frazier apologized for his actions, and he denied sending money to the student, meeting with her or having sexual encounters with her.
