Yes, Booker T. Washington High School students were busy this month competing at the Texas High School Mock Trial Competition, where  they tied for third with Woodrow Wilson High School. But in some down time, the Booker T. students, several of whom live in East Dallas, got busy making a TikTok.

And it has gone viral. As of publication, the video has been seen over 1.2 million times. It has more than 351,000 likes and over 2,000 comments.

Erykah Badu, an East Dallas resident and alumna of Booker T. Washington High School, is no stranger to the public eye. And lately, she’s been all over the headlines.

She was trending on Twitter in January for a photo her daughter, Puma Sabti Curry, posted on Instagram. She was given the “key to Deep Ellum” at her annual birthday concert. And she was featured on the cover of the March issue of Vogue. The profile on Badu goes into the capsule collection she made in partnership with Marni.

Take a video tour of her home studio, the “Badudio,” in this Vogue video. The space is full of instruments, and Badu has an infrared sauna in the bedroom.
