Booker T. beat Woodrow Wilson High School in the final round Feb. 4 to win the competition, though both teams, along with the one from Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet, will advance to the state competition, scheduled for March 3-4 in Dallas.

Five East Dallas residents participate on Booker T.’s team: Audrey Buehler, Isabel Gameros, Everett Johnson, Maxine Louthan and Claire Taylor. Other team members include Eryn Anum, Molly Chakery, Olivia Lang, Erin Mansour and Jacquie Wheeler. They are coached by lawyer advisers Bill Gameros and Abby Matthews and faculty adviser Satchel Victory.

Wheeler won the courtroom artist competition. Buehler received a best witness nomination. Gameros and Lang were nominated for best advocate for their roles as prosecution lawyer and defense lawyer, respectively.

This is the fourth-consecutive year that Booker T. has qualified for the Texas High School Mock Trial Competition.

Last year, the school won the state championship and placed fifth at the national competition.
