Later into the night, “a custom sculptural light fixture, with disco ball at its center, becomes the focal point,” according to the press release, and the dance party will begin (hence the name). Photography by Robert Underwood.

Boogies, the nightlife concept replacing The Whippersnapper near the intersection of Henderson and McMillan Avenues, is opening officially Oct. 3.

“You’re going to walk in and not have any idea that it was The Whippersnapper before,” This & That Hospitality partner Phil Schanbaum said to the Lakewood/East Dallas Advocate previously.

Schanbaum elaborated in a press release, “The Whippersnapper was a special place for us, and its success was built on constantly reinventing the wheel. We feel like Boogies is the next evolution of Henderson Avenue, a space that is growing and evolving with the people who live here. With Boogies, we’re doing it again — we’re creating a killer space with a great cocktail program that is set to resonate well for the neighborhood, the nightly drinkers and those looking for the best sound in town.”

Boogies was co-founded and “creatively led” by Jake Gatewood and This & That Hospitality, according to the press release.

As we reported in August: Boogies won’t have a kitchen. Instead, music and cocktails/mocktails will be on the menu. Schanbaum described Boogies as a place to listen to unique tunes — such as electronic music, disco, funk and old school — while drinking cocktails. Think fun, not aggressive, he said. You can expect a more upbeat musical vibe after 10 p.m., but it’s not meant to be “wild and crazy.”

In the later hours, “a custom sculptural light fixture, with disco ball at its center, becomes the focal point,” according to the press release, and the dance party will begin (hence the name).

“We want people to boogie,” Gatewood said in the press release. “This is the back room you couldn’t get into at Studio 54 — a place where everyone is invited. It’s for people who want great cocktails and amazing music in a safe, fun environment.”

The following cocktails will be served at Boogies — Lets Go Disco (tequila, cucumber, mint and lime), Cloud 909 (gin, butterfly pea tea, lemon, fee foam and Topo), and Appletini (vodka, apple, Midori and apple foam). Photography by Robert Underwood.

Prior to that, between 5-10 p.m., Boogies will be an “intimate listening lounge” and “moody cocktail bar” with a beverage menu curated by Taylor Dayton and Jeremy Koeninger for both the late and earlier hours.

“This early hour features vinyl playlists from local tastemakers, cozy seating, and an emphasis on conversation and connection,” reads the press release.

Listening to music at Boogies will be aided by the sound system by Fulcrum, “ensuring a powerful and immersive auditory experience for those who truly appreciate the craft of DJing,” according to the press release.

“If a cocktail enthusiast and an audiophile were sprinting at each other and ran into each other, this would be the result. We’re building a room for quality drinks and dancing,” said Brandon Hays of This & That Hospitality in the press release.

Check out Boogies from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.
