What does the bond have for East Dallas?

Early voting starts this week, and a number of propositions will be on the ballot to improve, repair and build new infrastructure throughout the city. Voters have the chance to add amenities and improvements via a tax increase. This bond will not include a tax rate increase, though taxes may go up due to property value increases.

The proposals have over $1 billion worth of improvements throughout the city, and though it doesn’t have any money going to Dallas’ public schools, it does have significant funds heading towards streets, trails, parks and other city facilities in our neighborhood.

Also of note, Dallas voters will have a chance to vote to end Dallas County Schools, an organization that is in charge of transportation for Dallas ISD and other Dallas County school districts, and has the power of taxation. The organization has had several leadership changes recently and been accused of financial mismanagement, but defenders say the organization has turned a corner.

At a Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce Legislative Update, Assistant City Manager Majed Al-Ghafry said that the projects should be completed over the next five years should the bond pass. Each of the propositions can be voted on individually.
