The competition drew more than 25 high school teams from across the state to the George Allen Sr. Courthouse in Dallas to argue a hypothetical criminal court case.

Students served as prosecution and defense attorneys, as well as witnesses. Judges and attorneys, who wrote the case, then served as jurors, selecting teams that had the best presentations.

One Day Academy of Austin placed second. Regents School of Austin and Lubbock High School were also semifinalists.

The 11 students on the first-place Bishop Lynch team will represent Texas at the 2019 National Mock Trial Competition in May in Athens, Georgia.

In its 40-year history, more than 120,000 students have participated in the statewide program sponsored by the Dallas Bar Association. Students from about 165 Texas schools try the cases annually.
