Bishop Lynch High School started flying a Louisiana state flag in September 2005, when the school accepted almost 50 Louisiana students who had been displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Melissa Monconduit, who graduated from Bishop Lynch May 17, is the last student from Hurricane Katrina to graduate from the school. Monconduit took down the school’s Louisiana flag in a special ceremony May 15, and the school’s president, Edward Leyden, presented it to her along with her diploma on graduation day.
