The last location of Baker Bros. American Deli on Greenville Avenue closed last week after 20 years in business.

A manager told CultureMap the eatery closed Nov. 7 because rent at the Old Town Shopping Center had become too expensive.

“We could barely pay our rent. It got so high, so the owners chose to shut us down,” the manager told the publication.

The lunch and dinner destination opened in 1999 under the ownership of Tom Dahl and Ken Reimer, a former CEO of Tony Roma’s and Furr’s Cafeterias, according to CultureMap. It served sandwiches, salads, pizzas and baked potatoes in a fast-casual setting.

Baker Bros. expanded to 11 locations in Plano, Amarillo, Fort Worth and others. They began closing in 2015.
