I was hoping to not have to ever say this publicly, but I do watch American Idol. Have for the last three seasons. I blame it entirely on my daughter. She forces it on me.

Though I could refuse to watch it, as I do with, say, Degrassi or Teen Mom, I don’t. I sigh and pretend to hate it and get up to “let the dog out” when I get teary eyed.

Last season I got pretty attached to this kid, James Durbin. He has Tourette syndrome, a wife and a baby and he plays old metal and rock music — how could I help it?

He came in fourth.

He will play at Dallas Fair Park following the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon, Sunday March 25.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Half is a ginormous yearly spring race that begins near City Hall, winds through Park Cities, the White Rock area, Lakewood and ends at Fair Park.

Running options include that 13.1-mile course or relay teams (split the distance). A kids run will take place Saturday, March 24 and run through Fair Park. Approximately 1,000 kids are expected to run the one-mile fun run.
