J.L. Long teacher Philomena Jones led her TAG and AVID students in creating a brand of chocolates for Whole Foods, which they sold this past Saturday at the Lakewood store. The students created the line, Chocolate Tree, with the help of Big Thought/Thriving Minds after school program and Olina Nicolini of Organicity in the Lakewood Shopping Center.

They created the products and the packaging, and they learned about economics and micro lending.

“The students love to work on real things,” Jones says. “They eat up information and become fantastic problem solvers when they’re given something fun and challenging to do.”

Their project benefited the Whole Planet Foundation.
