The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award given to Girl Scouts, equivalent to the Eagle Scout Award for Boy Scouts.

Rogers’ goal is to collect 500 new pairs of shoes before summer. She has built an oversized shoe box where people can place donations.

The box is currently located at 6151 Belmont Ave. Judson Rogers, Abby’s dad, says they hope to have the box at Bishop Lynch High School by the end of January. After that, the box will be given to Buckner Shoes, and the organization will choose where to place it.

Rogers created an Amazon Wishlist where shoes can be purchased and donated. People interested in participating can donate any closed-toed, non-slip-on shoes for men, women and children.

Judson Rogers says Abby decided to partner with Buckner Shoes because of a previous experience she had while volunteering with the organization, packaging shoes for distribution at the warehouse. She heard a presentation about how and why Buckner Shoes works, and she learned the significance a pair of shoes can make.

Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls is the largest aid project of Buckner International, a faith-based organization. Since 1999, it has given out more than 4 million pairs of new shoes and socks to kids in 83 countries.
