Through Jan. 30, Bath House Cultural Center is hosting “Frida Kahlo: La Flor de la Vida (The Flower of Life),” an art exhibition that draws inspiration from the influential Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The Bath House is located at 521 E Lawther. Go to the website for more. The exhibit is free.

The Dallas Marathon will be in our neighborhood this Sunday, Dec.13. The course runs along the Santa Fe trail and around Woodrow Wilson High School and J. L. Long Middle School. If you’re not a runner, the schools have been asked to run water and cheer stations in front of Woodrow and Long, and they’re seeking volunteers. The 7th annual Good Local Markets Holiday Extravaganza is on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Lakeside Baptist Church on 9150 Garland and Sunday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Half Price Books at 5803 E. northwest highway.  The market showcases artists, craftsmen, farmers and artisans. Both Saturday and Sunday festivities include gingerbread house workshops from 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. for $25 per gingerbread house. Register in advance at www.studiobellakids.com.

If you’re looking for a perfect Christmas card opportunity, Santa Claus will be at the flagship Half Price Books on Northwest Highway this weekend. (The same Santa we wrote about in the December magazine last year.) In keeping with Christmastime traditions, Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick will be making appearances through Dec. 20. Go to the website for dates and times. Bring the whole family or the pup for a snapshot with Santa. Also, any food donations will benefit the North Texas Food Bank.

and pooch-friendly sized “elfie selfie” stands. Plus a photo opportunity in the community park as the “I” inside the middle of a giant candy striped “B & G” display, in support of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau’s ‘BIG Things Happen Here’ campaign.
