Police received calls at around 3:17 p.m. on Nov. 23 about an apartment fire right behind Mata Montessori.
The fire was at the three-story apartment building Tenison at White Rock at 7440 La Vista. It was first reported by people at Mata Montessori who saw smoke coming from the building.
“We were assigned to the fire at 3:17 p.m., and we officially declared it extinguished at 3:35 p.m.,” says Jason Evans with the Dallas fire department. “So it wasn’t a very large fire, and we put it out relatively quickly.”
The fire was ruled an accident, Evans says. It started in the bathroom of a third floor vacant unit as a result of some pipework being done and some exposed insulation, he says. The fire went upwards through the walls and into the attic above the living units.
There were no injuries and no content damage, although there was about $15,000 worth of structural damage, he says. Management at Tenison at White Rock declined to comment.
