Puppies and kitties and wine. Oh my, please forgive that sad play on the classic Wizard of Oz line, but I want to draw your attention to the East Lake Veterinary Hospital’s 8th annual Wine on the Roof fundraising event, which is Saturday.
The tickets are $55 in advance or $60 at the door. All the proceeds go to the clinic’s Pet Orphanage. Its mission is finding homes for spayed and neutered, vaccinated and healthy pets that have been abandoned.
Longtime Dallas radio DJ Red Beard and his wife Bonnie Hill, who founded the Kaufman County Animal Awareness Project, will be accepting the John LaBella award for kindness to animals. The award is named for another Dallas DJ, who died in 2002, and was known as an animal lover.
Read about the food and wine after the jump.

Tickets buy selections from the Dallas Morning News’s Gold Medal Wine List, wine pairings from Tangiloo’s Catering and desserts from Dallas Affaires Cakes. There will also be non-alcoholic cocktails from Cafe Lago.
The night also includes a fashion show featuring dog clothes from Dallas designers. The only thing cuter than a dog in clothes is a dog in designer clothes.
The event is Saturday at 7 p.m.
