Celebrate 80 years with Woodrow Wilson High School — it all starts with a parade through Lakewood Saturday morning marshaled by the great Carroll Shelby, followed by the induction of several new members into the Woodrow Hall of Fame, and then, the Alumni Band Roundup Saturday night. Funds from the Band Roundup ticket sales benefit Woodrow’s International Baccalaureate program.

Also benefiting the program is a raffle offering up fairly good odds. Tickets for a chance to win a 2009 SmartForTwo Cabriolet car are $100 each, but only 600 tickets will be sold. Thing is, even if you don’t win — that $100 goes a long way toward supporting the school’s unique opportunity to launch the IB program.

In other weekend happenings, The White Rock Home Tour—get a sneak preview of the tour here.

Last weekend I was Downtown for dinner and the area seems to have more energy these days  — perhaps it has something to do with the Arts District and the happenings at One Arts Plaza. If you’re interested in the whole work, shop, dine, play mixed-use sort of living, you might want to check out the Spring Open House at One Arts Plaza, 1-6 p.m., which includes condo tours and samplings from restaurants within the same-named development. But don’t make your move too fast — these luxury living apartments are surely sweet and offer access to the arts and dining plus a great view of the city — but with one serious downfall: the Advocate isn’t delivered there (though we could probably get a stand… )
