Have you noticed this red I-beam sculpture at 2323 Henderson? It’s the work of Dallas-based artist Scott Trent, who is working with Andres Properties and the Phoenix Property Co. to launch the Henderson Art Project next year.
They will start taking entries from Texas sculptors in January, and a jury will select the seven best sculptures. The selected artists each get a stipend of $800, and their pieces will be on display along Henderson. Then the community gets to vote, online and at participating businesses, for our favorites. The top three vote-getters win cash prizes.
Each year, the Henderson Art Project will pick seven sculptures that stay in place for two years. So eventually, there will be a rotation of 14 sculptures, all from Texas artists, along Henderson. Pretty cool.
