The Porch opened a couple of years ago, but I tried it for the first time last week, and I could kick myself for missing out all this time.

We started with the chicken liver mousse ($9), and that’s the dish that will keep us coming back. The mousse is served in a jar with sourdough toast, and I could eat the whole thing. It’s not the healthiest item on the menu, but if you hit your plateu on Weight Watchers and need to boost your calorie intake, do yourself a favor and go to the Porch for this snack.

We also ordered a special — chicken and gnocchi dumplings — which lacked something. Butter, maybe? It fell flat. A side of brussels sprouts ($6) tasted only of garlic, and the sprouts were undercooked. But the smoked ham mac and cheese casserole ($9) was so good, none of that mattered. My date ordered braised short-rib stroganoff ($18), which was tasty if a little corny on the presentation.

Also, the service was terrific, and I love the place’s simple, cozy design.
