Café Brazil’s North Central Expressway location could potentially close due to Southern Methodist University’s proposed expansion plans.
On Dec. 19, SMU announced intentions to expand the campus eastward on land currently owned by the university where Café Brazil and other businesses are located, according to the student news organization The Daily Campus.
The current plans include a new law school, research and office buildings, graduate housing, and a residential tower. There are potential arrangements
to include first floor retail in some of the buildings, and Café Brazil manager Angelica Alvarado is hopeful that a space can be reserved for the restaurant, according to The Daily Campus. There are no definitive plans yet.
Café Brazil at North Central Expressway has been open for over three decades, according to its website, and has been a popular spot for students to go to for coffee and its easy accessibility.
Lakewood/East Dallas Advocate contacted one of the Café Brazil owners and SMU’s media team for comment on this story, but we didn’t receive a response by press time.
