HeartGift is marking their 25th year with a “Sunday Funday” party to celebrate more than 2,000 lives saved — so far. The afternoon of music and fun at One Nostalgia Tavern will feature singer-songwriters Max and Heather Stalling and benefit the nonprofit providing life-saving free heart surgeries to children around the world.

“I found out about this nonprofit shortly after my open-heart surgery to repair a defect that should have killed me,” said Karen Brown, who has been working for months to organize the event. “HeartGift provides these surgeries free of cost — travel and housing expenses included — for these children and parents. It’s a great cause.”

The Stallings currently live in East Dallas and bring a unique blend of vocals, lyrics and fiddle playing to Texas and Americana music. Heather traveled with her parents as a child, winning fiddle-playing contests throughout the South and West. She was hired into “The Texas Gold Minors” at 18 to perform in Branson seven days a week, and later returned to Texas to play with Bob Schneider, Cory Morrow, the Old 97s and others.

Max left his career in R&D at Frito Lay to pursue his goals as a singer-songwriter, becoming a mainstay of Texas’ Red Dirt music scene. He has six studio albums, three live projects and a star on the South Texas Music Walk of Fame in Corpus Christi.

Congenital heart defects are the most common birth defects in the world, and HeartGift works to provide surgeries for children who lack access to specialized medicine. Their surgeries are saving lives every day.

Sunday Funday runs from 4-6 p.m. Oct. 26. Tickets are available online here for $25, or you may purchase tickets at the door for $30. Donations may be made here.

One Nostalgia Tavern is at 6521 Abrams Road.
