To aid in the production of this edition, we asked our followers on Facebook to name their favorite bites of food being served up in East Dallas and share off-menu items they’ve discovered.

They did not disappoint. We received 40 comments celebrating the East Dallas food scene.

Check out some of the responses below. You may find more in the August issue of the Advocate

Keri Williams: I can never have too many dolmas at Sevan G&G Café. And the antipasto at Pizzeria Testa Lower Greenville is a must. (Editor’s note: keep in mind that this location of Pizzeria Testa has closed.)

Jen Amorella-McKimmey: Goodfriend. Best burger in town!

Lena Lewis: E Bar, E bar queso and stuffed jalapeños

Lisa Braach: The Maverick at Burger Schmurger

Celeste DeLorge Flippen: Ariana’s mantu. Deliciously authentic according to my Afghan native friends.

Diana Lindley Dubois: the mussels at The Heights (fav in Dallas) and the fact that you can order a half Caesar salad (and who knows what else).

Carol Bell-Walton: The gyro omelette at John’s. The Lakewood pizza at My Family’s Pizza. The root beer at the Dairy-ette. The fried shrimp at Bucky Moonshine’s. (Deep Ellum is east of 75.) The beef cheeks at Garden Cafe. The artichoke and preserved lemon linguine at Cork and Bull. (Editor’s note: I think this comment is referring to The Cock & Bull Neighborhood Pub.) The Gouda cheese grits at McCrea’s (Editor’s note: I think this comment is referring to a side dish at McRae’s American Bistro and Cocktails.) The Cuban at Jimmy’s. This is making me hungry!
