On Tuesday, the bakery, known for its croissants and danishes, announced on Instagram they would be temporarily closing to expand the bakery’s space and add to its menu. Their last day of operation was on Mother’s Day, May 12.

“Everything inside is changing, from kitchen to dining area. We are making them both bigger. We leased the place next to us, so we are not moving, just getting bigger,” Chef Maria Becerra from Lubellas Patisserie said.

The renovation was necessary as demand has grown since opening the bakery two years ago, Becerra told the Advocate

“During the weekends, the place gets packed [and] people have to wait for a table and [our] kitchen. [This] was needed because we get a lot of catering and wholesale inquiries. So we thought it was time to take over the next-door space and make Lubellas bigger,” she said. “We have more things coming up for the place, and a bigger kitchen and dining area will help us make it happen.”

Additionally, Lubellas said they plan to expand the menu to offer more fresh Latin-inspired items like pasta and bread. There will also be more to-go options for the bakery.

Lubellas will also get more ovens in July to help them make more fresh bread daily.
