The Dallas Morning News Charities surpassed its $1 million mark earlier this month, and a portion of those proceeds will go to East Dallas charities, such as White Rock Center for Hope off Garland, Family Gateway near downtown, Austin Street Center and others.

Since the program was introduced in 1986, The Dallas Morning News Charities has distributed more than $24 million locally, including $1.1 million from more than 1,900 donors during the 2012-2013 campaign, according to a press release.
