Santa may have an outpost of elves in East Dallas. That’s because students at Multiple Careers Magnet Center are hard at work building and sanding wooden toys to deliver to sick kids in the area, according to NBC affiliate Channel 5.

Multiple Careers Magnet Center at 4528 Rusk Ave. teaches vocational skills to students with special needs. In class, they learn how to safely operate power tools, which they use to build airplanes, rocking horses and other toys.

The toys are painted and donated to the Ronald McDonald House. The house provides families with a free or low-cost place to stay while undergoing specialized medical treatment.

“If you can take a sick child’s mind off that sickness for five minutes, then you’re doing a blessing,” teacher Terry Stotts told Channel 5. “I see the self-esteem of these young men go from low to very high. I’m so proud of the work they do.”
