Woodrow Wilson High School’s new principal will be former Bryan Adams High School Assistant Principal Michael Moran.
Moran will be the fifth principal in the last four school years after Kyle Richardson led the East Dallas school for five years. Michael Dang followed Richardson and lasted just a few weeks, Steve Ewing left for Garland after a year and Roxanne Cheek is headed to a Richardson elementary school after one year at the helm of Woodrow.
In a Facebook post, Dallas ISD trustee Dustin Marshall says that Moran was the near unanimous choice of administration and community members who were part of the interview panel. Moran was a former English teacher, tennis coach and yearbook sponsor at Woodrow, where he started in 2008. He helped establish the IB program there and was named Teacher of the Year by the East Dallas Chamber of Commerce. He briefly worked at Maceo Smith New Tech High School before moving back to East Dallas to be an instructional coach for a year and an Assistant Principal for four years at Bryan Adams.
Moran will be in familiar territory in more ways than one. Not only will he return to the school where he once taught, he will remain under new Executive Director Richard Kastl, with whom he worked at Bryan Adams. Kastl was the principal at Bryan Adams for five years while Moran was in the administration there. He was part of the staff that helped move Bryan Adams from the edge of an “Improvement Required” rating to earning six of seven distinctions from the Texas Education Agency and starting a leadership academy.
“Mr. Moran is now returning home to Woodrow Wilson High School inspired, motivated, and fueled for the 2018-2019 school year,” Marshall writes. “He is determined to make the Wildcat faculty, staff, parents, community, and alumni proud for years to come.”
