“We are incredibly proud of these kids,” Darren Nicholson said. ” They put in an enormous amount of work, learn the rules of evidence, how to be effective advocates, and how to think on their feet. They do this all on top of their other school commitments.”

The team participated in a competition Wednesday, Feb. 7 with other Dallas ISD teams from Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, all headed to the next round.

This year, 23 teams competed at the George Allen courthouse and were judged by lawyers. The teams performed a civil case involving a disputed holographic will. At the tournament, the teams must prepare both sides of the case, plaintiff and defendant, with each side presenting three witnesses.

Senior Tyler Joplin was one of the nominees for “best witness” in the DISD tournament.

Woodrow’s performance means the team qualifies for the state competition in Dallas, scheduled for March 8-9.
