My February 1993 Valentine to Woodrow romance prompted a plethora of other paramours to come to my attention.

Retired geometry teacher Wilhelmina Blevins wrote me a letter about many marriages from her long tenure as one of Woodrow’s legendary math maestros.

“All of these couples are still living in the Lakewood and Lake Highlands area and are active in church and community:

“Sharon Hopper and Mike DeGrazier (’60), Patricia Dean and Carl Ray (’64), Barbara Pou and Don Morris (’50s), Janice Copple and Bob Parks (’61), Nancy Slaughter and Ricky White (’64), Carolyn Jones and Terry Watson (’60), Charles Wilson and Jamie Rowan (’64) and Sandra Brooks and Mike Dossett (’62).

“There’s something about that Woodrow atmosphere that is invigorating,” she wrote.

Pythagoras would be proud.

Here’s another letter I received:

“John Brawner, June ’36, and Robbie Sims, January ’36, were ‘just good friends’ way back then and remained just good friends throughout the years. They did a lot of double-dating in the years following graduation; in fact, John was an attendant in Robbie’s wedding back in 1939.

“Years passed, and their paths seldom crossed until 1990, by which time each had lost a spouse. They started talking about the ‘good old days’ over dinner, and before long, discovered they were very much in love. Wedding bells sounded for John and Robbie on April 27, 1991, and they’re still ringing for them…loud and clear!”

Last time, I forgot other Wildcat marriages from my class: Paul Thompson (’76) and Gayle Parrish (’77), Martha Meers (’76) and Keith Towell (’74), and Nikki Stefanos (’76) and Sam Harrington (’74).

Golden Wildcats

My congratulations to Gordon (’41) and Betty Jean Meade Brin (’41), who recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Their children, Steve Brin (’63), Barbara Brin Seabolt (’67) and Beverly (’76) are also Wildcats. Like his father, Steve married within Woodrow – Judy Hendrix Brin (’63).

When Beverly and I found “Steve + Judy” written in one of the auditorium lofts during our days at Woodrow, 13 years later, we added a postscript: “Married.”

The alumni association files are filled with other Woodrow couples. And don’t forget – couples pay only $15 for a membership in the association, rather than two $10 memberships.
