Is it a case of life imitating TV?
Although I’m not a Glee guy, apparently the television show has been working a storyline that has Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) vying for the lead role in “Funny Girl” on Broadway.
Meanwhile, here in the neighborhood, Woodrow Wilson High School’s drama department announced plans to present “Funny Girl” as the annual spring musical at tonight’s mini school introducing teachers and curriculums to parents.
Barbra Streisand starred in the 1968 movie of the same name, which chronicles the life of comedienne Fannie Brice. The movie won an Oscar and also starred Omar Sharif.
Katie Cunningham, a 2009 Woodrow grad and musical participant during her high school years, will be assistant musical director with John Beaird, the head of Woodrow’s drama department. Cunningham is a music teacher at Stonewall Jackson Elementary School.
Last year’s musical was “Anything Goes” and followed a long line of spring musicals presented by the school.
