Woodrow Wilson principal Eduardo Torres has been promoted to a district supervisory post by Dallas Public Schools Superintendent Yvonne Gonzalez beginning in June.

Torres’ new position as District 3 superintendent will place him in charge of both Woodrow and North Dallas as well as all of the schools that feed into the two high schools.

“My job is to make sure that the students are learning and that the teachers are teaching,” says Torres.

“I think I’m in the know. I’ve been here (Woodrow) for four years, and we’ve made tremendous progress.”

Gonzalez, who announced the promotion and other administrative changes at a recent news conference, says she’s excited about Torres’ new role.

“Torres’ is a well-respected educator by teachers, by students and among his peers,” Gonzalez says.”

“He brings to this job a wealth of experience in education and a love for the children he serves. I look forward to working with him on my council.”

Parent Diana Drury, who has had at least one child enrolled at Woodrow since 1980, says that although she is sad to see Torres leave, she knows that he will continue to help the school in his new capacity.

“It (the promotion) will do nothing but help us,” Drury says. “I don’t see any disadvantages.”

Torres says that although the decision regarding his replacement will come from Gonzalez, he will have a hand in the selection.

“The superintendent makes the final decision, but I’m sure he will allow us to give input,” Torres says.

“My goal is to make sure that whoever is assigned to be the new principal will keep the momentum going.”

Woodrow librarian Bradley Sue Howell says the school will miss Torres, but says she is optimistic about the role he will continue to play in the school’s development.

“I’m real excited for him about his promotion,” Howell says. “He has been a great principal for not only the teachers and the students, but also for the community.”
