The owners of Jack’s Kitchen said Tuesday they are closing the restaurant, citing a lack of business, multiple break-ins and a name infringement lawsuit.
The business’ last day will be Sunday, when it will serve brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will also be open Nov. 27 for neighbors to pick up sides and pies for their Thanksgiving meals.
Maintaining the restaurant at 6041 Oram St. has been difficult after several break-ins, co-owner Sandy Jones Inman said on Facebook. The owners have had to replace two iPads, two laptops, broken windows and glass doors.
In addition, an Austin-based restaurant, Jack Allen’s Kitchen, is suing the business for name infringement, Inman said.
“The main reason, though, is that we aren’t getting enough regular business to be able to pay the bills, employees, food and other multiple overhead costs,” Inman said. “The break-ins and lawsuit are just the straws the broke the camel’s back.”
Inman will continue making small orders of pies from her home and has access to a commercial kitchen for large orders.
Jack’s Kitchen served a Southern menu with shareable plates that included deconstructed deviled eggs, fried chicken, shrimp and grit tamales and a dish that included pork belly, pork butt and heirloom butter beans.
“We will miss all of our Jack’s customers and hope you’ll drop by to see us one last time,” Inman said.
